The present study systematically evaluated the efficacy of escitalopram oxalate in the treatment of post-stroke depression.

It explored the databases of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, SinoMed, China Knowledge Network, Wanfang database, and VIP databases and randomized the document type. The experimental group included treatment with oxalic acid escitalopram (escitalopram oxalate ESO) or its combined psychotherapy or other routine treatment, while the control group included other antidepressants or their combined psychotherapy or other routine treatment.

The study included 15 works of literature, with a total sample of 1287 cases, the experimental group included 645 cases, and the control group included 642 cases. The scores of HAMD were lower in the experimental group compared with those of the control group. The experimental group showed a significant reduction in the degree of PSD depression compared with the control group. Regarding the NIHSS score, the experimental group performed better than the control group. Regarding the MMSE score, the experimental group recovered better than the control group. The effectiveness of the experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group. The experimental group showed adverse reactions during the treatment period, which all resolved within one week.

This study explains that the experimental group (containing Escitalopram) can significantly reduce the Depression degree of PSD, promote the recovery of neurological function and improve the cognitive level compared with the control group.
